The Song Of A Girl And A Guy Deal With Emotions Essay

When I heard about the song assignment the song I immediately thought of the song Different For Girls and how it would relate to the gender chapter. Country is my all time favorite music genre. I knew there would be many country songs to choose from to fit into the gender chapter. I picked this song because I remember the first time I heard it and thinking it was sad how differently boys and girls deal with problems. Our society today has shown that boys need to act strong with little emotions. This song captures how society has reformed how boys and girls deal with emotions. Dierks Bentley’s song is describing the difference between how a girl and a guy deal with heartbreak. I can relate to this song because I have been through heartbreak and the guy dealt with it completely differently from me. He should little emotion and acted as if it never mattered. The song reminds me of how society has created these gender roles and to be a man you have to follow them. According to Con ley gender is defined as â€Å"a social position; the set of social arrangements that are built around normative sex categories†(Conley 279). The song is showing that based on your gender this is the way you should act emotionally. The first concept that helps analyze the song is gender roles. Conley states that gender roles are defined as, â€Å" sets of behavioral norms assumed to accompany ones status as a male or female†(Conley 287). Following the Civil War, a second industrial revolution in America brought many changes to the nation’s agriculture sector. The new technologies that were created transformed how farmers worked and the way in which the sector functioned. Agriculture expanded and became more industrial. Meanwhile government policies, or lack of them for a while, and hard economic conditions put difficult strains on farmers and their occupation. These changes in technology, economic conditions, and government policy from 1865 to 1900 transformed and improved agriculture while leaving farmers in hardship. The new technology used in American agriculture made it overall more productive and widespread while creating mixed results for the farmers. The advancement in machines like reapers, threshers, and mowers to harvest grains produced contrasting outcomes. An obvious benefit was some of the ease brought to the farmers. The human labor involved in harvesting grain by hand with a scythe or by a simpl e, one horse-powered machine was far greater than harvesting with a big, multi-horse powered machine. The devices made work simpler, faster, and more efficient for the farmers by relying on animal energy and technology (Document D). With promises of larger crops with less exertion, the new machines became very desirable to farmers in order to stay in competition with their peers; however, buying these machines also pushed many of them into unfortunate financial situations. Beth Cassel, Ser Rodrik’s little girl, was sitting by her feet, listening to every word she said, and Jeyne Poole was leaning over to whisper something in her ear. â€Å"What are you talking about?† Arya asked suddenly. Jeyne gave her a startled look, then giggled. Sansa looked abashed. Beth blushed. No one answered. â€Å"Tell me,† Arya said. Jeyne glanced over to make certain that Septa Mordane was not listening. Myrcella said something then, and the septa laughed along with the rest of the ladies. â€Å"We were talking about the prince,† Sansa said, her voice soft as a kiss. Arya knew which prince she meant: Jofftey, of course. The tall, handsome one. Sansa got to sit with him at the feast. Arya had to sit with the little fat one. Naturally. â€Å"Joffrey likes your sister,† Jeyne whispered, proud as if she had something to do with it. She was the daughter of Winterfell’s steward and Sansa’s dearest friend. â€Å"He told her she was very beautiful.† â€Å"He’s going to marry her,† little Beth said dreamily, hugging herself. â€Å"Then Sansa will be queen of all the realm.† Sansa had the grace to blush. She blushed prettily. She did everything prettily, Arya thought with dull resentment. â€Å"Beth, you shouldn’t make up stories,† Sansa corrected the younger girl, gently stroking her hair to take the harshness out of her words. She looked at Arya. â€Å"What did you think of Prince Joff, sister? He’s very gallant, don’t you think?† â€Å"Jon says he looks like a girl,† Arya said. Sansa sighed as she stitched. â€Å"Poor Jon,† she said. â€Å"He gets jealous because he’s a bastard.† â€Å"He’s our brother,† Arya said, much too loudly. Her voice cut through the afternoon quiet of the tower room. Septa Mordane raised her eyes. She had a bony face, sharp eyes, and a thin lipless mouth made for frowning. It was frowning now. â€Å"What are you talking about, children?† â€Å"Our half brother,† Sansa corrected, soft and precise. She smiled for the septa. â€Å"Arya and I were remarking on how pleased we were to have the princess with us today,† she said. Septa Mordane nodded. â€Å"Indeed. A great honor for us all.† Princess Myrcella smiled uncertainly at the compliment. â€Å"Arya, why aren’t you at work?† the septa asked. She rose to her feet, starched skirts rustling as she started across the room. â€Å"Let me see your stitches.† Arya wanted to scream. It was just like Sansa to go and attract the septa’s attention. â€Å"Here,† she said, surrendering up her work. The septa examined the fabric. â€Å"Arya, Arya, Arya,† she said. â€Å"This will not do. This will not do at all.† Everyone was looking at her. It was too much. Sansa was too well bred to smile at her sister’s disgrace, but Jeyne was smirking on her behalf. Even Princess Myrcella looked sorry for her. Arya felt tears filling her eyes. She pushed herself out of her chair and bolted for the door. Septa Mordane called after her. â€Å"Arya, come back here! Don’t you take another step! Your lady mother will hear of this. In front of our royal princess too! You’ll shame us all!† Arya stopped at the door and turned back, biting her lip. The tears were running down her cheeks now. She managed a stiff little bow to Myrcella. â€Å"By your leave, my lady.† Myrcella blinked at her and looked to her ladies for guidance. But if she was uncertain, Septa Mordane was not. â€Å"Just where do you think you are going, Arya?† the septa demanded. Arya glared at her. â€Å"I have to go shoe a horse,† she said sweetly, taking a brief satisfaction in the shock on the septa’s face. Then she whirled and made her exit, running down the steps as fast as her feet would take her. It wasn’t fair. Sansa had everything. Sansa was two years older; maybe by the time Arya had been born, there had been nothing left. Often it felt that way. Sansa could sew and dance and sing. She wrote poetry. She knew how to dress. She played the high harp and the bells. Worse, she was beautiful. Sansa had gotten their mother’s fine high cheekbones and the thick auburn hair of the Tullys. Arya took after their lord father. Her hair was a lusterless brown, and her face was long and solemn. Jeyne used to call her Arya Horseface, and neigh whenever she came near. It hurt that the one thing Arya could do better than her sister was ride a horse. Well, that and manage a household. Sansa had never had much of a head for figures. If she did marry Prince Joff, Arya hoped for his sake that he had a good steward. Nymeria was waiting for her in the guardroom at the base of the stairs. Ghost, already larger than his litter mates, smelled her, gave her ear a careful nip, and settled back down. She spotted Theon Greyjoy beside him, his black doublet emblazoned with the golden kraken of his House, a look of wry contempt on his face. Both of the combatants were staggering. She should have realized. For the second time today, Arya reflected that life was not fair. She watched her little brother whack at Tommen. â€Å"I could do just as good as Bran,† she said. â€Å"He’s only seven. I’m nine.† Jon looked her over with all his fourteen-year-old wisdom. â€Å"You’re too skinny,† he said. He took her arm to feel her muscle. Then he sighed and shook his head. â€Å"I doubt you could even lift a longsword, little sister, never mind swing one.† Arya snatched back her arm and glared at him. Jon messed up her hair again. They watched Bran and Tommen circle each other. â€Å"You see Prince Joffrey?† Jon asked. She hadn’t, not at first glance, but when she looked again she found him to the back, under the shade of the high stone wall. He was surrounded by men she did not recognize, young squires in the livery of Lannister and Baratheon, strangers all. There were a few older men among them; knights, she surmised. â€Å"Look at the arms on his surcoat,† Jon suggested. Arya looked. An ornate shield had been embroidered on the prince’s padded surcoat. No doubt the needlework was exquisite. The arms were pided down the middle; on one side was the crowned stag of the royal House, on the other the lion of Lannister. â€Å"The Lannisters are proud,† Jon observed. â€Å"You’d think the royal sigil would be sufficient, but no. He makes his mother’s House equal in honor to the king’s.† â€Å"The woman is important too!† Arya protested. Jon chuckled. â€Å"Perhaps you should do the same thing, little sister. Wed Tully to Stark in your arms.† â€Å"A wolf with a fish in its mouth?† It made her laugh. â€Å"That would look silly. Besides, if a girl can’t fight, why should she have a coat of arms?† Jon shrugged. â€Å"Girls get the arms but not the swords. Bastards get the swords but not the arms. I did not make the rules, little sister.† There was a shout from the courtyard below. Prince Tommen was rolling in the dust, trying to get up and failing. All the padding made him look like a turtle on its back. Bran was standing over him with upraised wooden sword, ready to whack him again once he regained his feet. The men began to laugh. â€Å"Enough!† Ser Rodrik called out. He gave the prince a hand and yanked him back to his feet. â€Å"Well fought. Lew, Donnis, help them out of their armor.† He looked around. â€Å"Prince Joffrey, Robb, will you go another round?† Robb, already sweaty from a previous bout, moved forward eagerly. â€Å"Gladly.† Joffrey moved into the sunlight in response to Rodrik’s summons. His hair shone like spun gold. He looked bored. â€Å"This is a game for children, Ser Rodrik.† Theon Greyjoy gave a sudden bark of laughter. â€Å"You are children,† he said derisively. â€Å"Robb may be a child,† Joffrey said. â€Å"I am a prince. And I grow tired of swatting at Starks with a play sword.† â€Å"You got more swats than you gave, Joff,† Robb said. â€Å"Are you afraid?† Prince Joffrey looked at him. â€Å"Oh, terrified,† he said. â€Å"You’re so much older.† Some of the Lannister men laughed. Jon looked down on the scene with a frown. â€Å"Joffrey is truly a little shit,† he told Arya. Ser Rodrik tugged thoughtfully at his white whiskers. â€Å"What are you suggesting?† he asked the prince. â€Å"Live steel.† â€Å"Done,† Robb shot back. â€Å"You’ll be sorry!† The master-at-arms put a hand on Robb’s shoulder to quiet him. â€Å"Live steel is too dangerous. I will permit you tourney swords, with blunted edges.† Joffrey said nothing, but a man strange to Arya, a tall knight with black hair and burn scars on his face, pushed forward in front of the prince. â€Å"This is your prince. Who are you to tell him he may not have an edge on his sword, ser?† â€Å"Master-at-arms of Winterfell, Clegane, and you would do well not to forget it.† â€Å"Are you training women here?† the burned man wanted to know. He was muscled like a bull. â€Å"I am training knights,† Ser Rodrik said pointedly. â€Å"They will have steel when they are ready. When they are of an age.† The burned man looked at Robb. â€Å"How old are you, boy?† â€Å"Fourteen,† Robb said. â€Å"I killed a man at twelve. You can be sure it was not with a blunt sword.† Arya could see Robb bristle. His pride was wounded. He turned on Ser Rodrik. â€Å"Let me do it. I can beat him.† â€Å"Beat him with a tourney blade, then,† Ser Rodrik said. Joffrey shrugged. â€Å"Come and see me when you’re older, Stark. If you’re not too old.† There was laughter from the Lannister men. Robb’s curses rang through the yard. Arya covered her mouth in shock. Theon Greyjoy seized Robb’s arm to keep him away from the prince. Ser Rodrik tugged at his whiskers in dismay. Joffrey feigned a yawn and turned to his younger brother. â€Å"Come, Tommen,† he said. â€Å"The hour of play is done. Leave the children to their frolics.† That brought more laughter from the Lannisters, more curses from Robb. Ser Rodrik’s face was beet-red with fury under the white of his whiskers. Theon kept Robb locked in an iron grip until the princes and their party were safely away. Jon watched them leave, and Arya watched Jon. Ulysses Hiram Grant was born April 27, 1822, in a two room frame house at Point Pleasant, Ohio(Ulysses S. Grant 1). His father, Jesse Root Grant, was foreman in a tannery and a farmer. His mother, Hannah Simpson Grant, was a hard working frontier woman. When Ulysses was a year old, the family moved to Georgetown. There his father bought a farm, built a house, and set up his own tannery. Jesse and Hannah had five more children there, two boys and three girls(Ulysses S. Grant 1). Grant love horses and learned to manage them at an early age. When he was seven or eight he could drive a team and began hauling all the wood used in the house and shops. From that point on until he reached seventeen, Grant did all the work done with horses; such as breaking up the land, furrowing, plowing corn, bringing in the crops when harvested, and hauling wood(Ulysses S. Grant 1). Three months each winter when work was minimized Grant went to a one room schoolhouse, and that's how he was educated until he went to West Point at age seventeen. When Grant turned seventeen, his father got him an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point. The congressman who made the appointment did not know Grants' full name, so he left out Hiram and added Simpson. Simpson, was Grants', mothers' maiden name(Ulysses S. Grant 1). He was pleased with his new name because he disliked his old initials H.U.G. Cadet Grant did not care for military life and never expected to stay in the army. He was good in mathematics and hoped sometime to teach it. In other subjects he was about average. He was, however, the finest horseman at the academy. Quiet and shy, he made few friends(The Civil War). When he was commissioned, Ulysses was ordered to Jefferson Barracks, near St. Louis, Missouri. While stationed there he met Julia Dent, daughter of a slave owning Southern family(Ulysses S. Grant 2). Within three months he proposed to her and was accepted. Since he had only his pay as lieutenant, the wedding was postponed(Ulysses S. Grant 2). Grant was in almost every battle of the Mexican War. He fought on foot, observing many different commanders and how they lead their troops. This experience, he said, was of great value to him, because he became acquainted with nearly all the officers of the regular army. Some of them including the great soldier Robert E. Lee were to be on the Confederate side in the Civil War(Krick 15). Grant came back from Mexico a captain, with favorable mention. He at once married Julia and took her to his new station, Sackett's Harbor, New York. During the Mexican War Grant formed the habit of drinking. At Sackett's Harbor he joined a temperance society, but he forgot the pledge the next year when he was sent to Detroit(Ulysses S. Grant 1). In 1852 Grant?s regiment was ordered to the Pacific coast by way of the Isthmus of Panama. Mrs. Grant stayed with her parents because she didn?t want to take their two year old child on a trip like that. Cholera attacked the regiment in Panama. Grant showed great leadership and resourcefulness in getting the mules to carry the delirious men across the isthmus(Krick 16). He kept his cool and showed how he could lead men when times got rough. Grant spent two years on the Pacific coast. He missed Julia and wasn?t there when his second child was born. He turned again to drink and wore slovenly uniforms. Entry 3: Week One of Project All educational experiences should empower students to feel that they can make a difference in this world. Those were the first words out of my project mentor’s mouth. The Speech & Debate team is lead by Mr. Tray Smith. He recounted to me how when he was a high school kid he was shy and quiet. Mr. Smith’s high school freshman year English teacher recognized impressiveness in his character encouraging him to join the Speech & Debate team. Mr. Smith quickly felt as if he was a part of something that held significance. He greatly enjoys the preparation leading to events at the school where he now teaches. So on that note, this first week we concentrated on how I might participate. I informed him about my requirement for the course project so he would put me to work in earnest. He immediately began to coach me. It is imperative that students feel they have something important to say having the confidence to share it with you as well as with their peers. So the goal is to m ake them feel at ease. Recognize it is reasonable for them to stumble every now and then. Humility is also a core characteristic of the team. Many successful programs are also known for being a bit pretentious. As our team increasingly gains success, a gracious, humble attitude becomes more important to display. Being a member of our team requires a high level of motivation and some serious goal setting. So don’t hesitate to challenge them. They are accustomed to critique on their speeches. Other high school activities cater to a specific skill set. What helps keep students engaged is that there is something for everyone within this environment. The sector that I have chosen to write my report on is ‘children and young people’, I chose this sector because I am hoping to work with children when I am older. The client group is children who are 2 – 4 year old(Nursery age) the care setting will be nurserys in England. The work of the sector Nurseries provide full day care and education for children from as young as six weeks to pre-school five year olds. Day nurseries are different from nursery schools and can be privately run, community, council or workplace services. They all must be registered and regulary inspected by Oftsed though and must comply with the guidlines of how much staff there should be to children(for under two’s, one carer to three children; two to three year olds, one carer to four children; three to five year olds, one carer to eight children). All staff there must have or must be working towards the relevant qualifications in children. The care setting and client group The purpose of a nursery is to provide care for those under the legal school age(5). The care may be needed if the parents work or if the parents just want their child to get used to been around other children of similar age so they can get their confidence up. In a nursery there will usually be between 10 and 26 children in it depending how big or small it is. Nurseries are more likely to be in a rural area because families with children will more likely live there, any care setting for children in Urban areas will more likely be private care. Facilites in a nursery : Nurseries will have a lot of many factilites that are suitable for the children, there will be a mix of play areas which are an important part of the childs development in the nursery years. There will possible be a soft play area for younger children, plenty of toys(suitable for the ages) a sand pit and/or a water pit for them to, depending on the age the nursery accepts though. They may even have an outside area for play which would be best for the oldest children in the nursery, the outside area would have tricicles(maybe) and possibly Jungle-Jim equipment that the children can play on. Inside they are likely to have a small reading area(where the children will sit down on the carpet like they do in reception). Toilets, possibly a changing room depending on the ages the nurseries accepts. They may have a small kitchen or an upstairs caffeteria if connected to a school. The differet practicioners : Manager, deputy manager, room leaders(depending on how big the nursery is), workers, volunteers, special education needs coordinator(senco). If the nursery is big they will possible have a cook and maybe an administrator. The clients will only meet the room leaders, workers, volunteers(as these are the ones who look after/teach the children) and maybe the senco depending on if they need one. The manager and deputy manager are there to make sure that the nursery runs smoothly and that they keep to the standards expected of them(buying supplies, keeping in contact with parents). The room leader is there to be in charge of a certain room in the building, these are only needed for the bigger nurseries.

Overproduction was going on all through the war, and it did not stop as soon as the war came to an end. The reason overproduction came into effect in the first place, was because america had to feed the soldiers and the allies, therefore, the goverment constantly pushed farmers to grow more crops. When the war was over, instead of decreasing the crop amount, farmers grew the same number of crops. Not as many people were in America, therefore, less people bought less amounts of food. In order for people to buy more food, the goverment believed that if the prices plummeted, the sales would increase, unfortunately, it did not happen that way. Overproduction not only hurt the farmers, but it also hurt the rest of the economy. Since the food was not selling well, the stores began to order less food from the farmers. Since the farmers were not making quite as much money, they had to do either of the three following things: A) Lay off workers B) Reduce their pay C) Cut down on maintenance of machinery. If any of those possibilities were done, then the workers would not have extra spending money. Therefore, they would not be able to go to the store and buy as much food as necessary, therefore, the gradual domino effect continued. Overproduction not only hurt the manufaturers but it also greatly hurt the citizens that lived in the USA. They would buy and sell the stock(s) very quickly hoping to make millions of dollars. The Best Motion Picture: Jurassic Park The film that I think should be awarded for The Best Motion Picture is Jurassic Park because of the excellent filming techniques, terminologies and an effective storyline about Dinosaurs that was used to make it the best and captivating film. It keeps the viewers captivated and riveted to their seats The action keeps the audience in suspense and has great effects. The dinosaurs looked real and sounded similar to what we would think real dinosaurs sounded. in the film, it wasis a very unique effect that made the actual animals look very realistic. The construction of the dinosaurs and the whole dinosaur park brought the film to life and made the viewer feel as if they are part of the investigation in the film and also made the entire film seem modern even though dinosaurs dont exist in our generation. An extreme long shot was used by showing the audience the island where Jurassic Park was situated and this is where all the action takes place. At the beginning of the film we get an eye level shot of the dinosaur when it was it the cage being transferred to an enclosure. This make the audience feel insecure and think that it is looking at us. We also get a long shot when the characters walked towards the cars outside before they went to explore the park and see all the various dinosaurs. We also get an extreme close up shot of the mosquito in the resin that was attached to Johns walking stick is very effective as the backlight and zooming adds a clear view of the mosquito and symbolizes its importance. We also get a birds eye view when the people were the dusting the ground of the dinosaurs bones. It makes the audience seem like they are looking down at the people and the dinosaurs fossil being dusted. The sound in the film is plays an extremely important role in the film. The sound in Jurassic Park has a huge impact on the viewer. The synchronous sound is used brilliantly when the huge T-Rex engulfs one of the visitors in the park. The sound in the film made a enormous impact on the viewers, especially when the director uses non-synchronous sound as the actors enter the dinosaur park and also when the children are being chased. The sound gives the viewer an emotion of uncertainty and fear. There are no wild sounds in the film but there are a few scenes with a voice over such as the scene where the people are trying to escape from the T-Rex as it chases them through the park. The voices of the victims are louder than the synchronous sound. The dolly shot was used when Ian was in the car with the lady and other tour guides. The camera is placed on a track and set to move at the same speed as the dinosaur. This makes the viewer very involved and close to the scene. A crane shot is used when the lady was trying to get away and get to the technical room. The camera was placed in the air and this made us as the viewers feel like she was being chased by a dinosaur. Zoom lenses, when the goat was placed in the T-Rexs area and it zoomed in and out. This gives the audience an impression that the goat will be eaten and this creates excitement in the scene where it does not exist. We get a aerial shot of the island and it is taken via a helicopter but it does not show us the whole island as one and this conveys real drama and exhilaration. The colours used on the logo Jurassic Park attract the eye because of the use of bright colours and it is a reminder to the audience about where the action takes place. The green forests within the dinosaur park show that the park is a luscious ground for herbivores and a typical environment in which dinosaurs would live in. The use of colours sets the tone, and Jurassic Park has many different colours which I think makes the film more realistic, exciting and adventurous. The dull colours in the background made the logo stand out. The costumes of the characters were not too stylish but they stood out from the bright evergreen island and made them look neutral. The helmets and multi coloured cars made their clothing stand out more. The key light made us see the characters and dinosaurs no matter what the conditions were in the film and the fill light added some shadow. This is shown when T-Rex escapes and there is a spotlight shone on it. They also turned down the fill light when the two philosoraptors entered the kitchen and then increase the amount of shadow; this helped by creating suspense and tension to the audience. There arent many icons, indexes and symbols in the film, but one symbol that symbolizes fear is the dinosaur footprint because dinosaurs are dangerous animals and are threats to humans. I think that Jurassic Park is a great movie because the action of the film keeps the audience in suspense throughout the film and has great effects that make the audience riveted to their seats. The dinosaurs looked and sounded real. Steven Spielberg really deserves to win the Best Picture Award for Jurassic Park as he is a creative director and his film will never become outdated and will always have an exciting storyline.
